Little Bondarenkos + update on Kateryna’s comeback

Sisters Kateryna, Alona and Valeria Bondarenko

Not so long ago these tennis sisters were the it girls of women’s tennis, especially Alona and Kateryna who even won the 2008 Australian Open doubles together. However, more or less from the time they got married, Alona at the age of 26 to Nikolay Dyachok on July 8, 2010 and two years younger Kateryna soon afterwards to Denis Volodko in September 2011, the two have disappeared, not only from the tennis courts, but from the news and social media altogether.

During their career peak, they were very much talked about and attracted a lot of attention, especially the former Top 20 player Alona, but after their quiet withdrawal we have received very few updates on the Ukrainian sisters. We did see the photos of a very pregnant Kateryna in April 2013, but strangely, there have been no updates on her becoming a mother (if you have some information, please share!).

However, now we have some news about the former world No.29 Kateryna, which again got unnoticed by the media – she entered the BNP Paribas Katowice Open draw and lost in the first round of qualifying to Kristina Kucova 6-1 6-3. Another tennis mom made a comeback this week – Tatjana Maria (Malek) entered the Bogota tournament and lost in the first round to Romina Oprandi.
