World No.5 Victoria Azarenka gave up her hopes of playing the upcoming 2014 French Open, still recovering from a foot injury that made her miss Doha, Miami, Madrid and Rome. Azarenka announced the withdrawal on Twitter:

Hi Guys – Unfortunately I will not be able to compete in Roland Garros this year. Working hard on my recovery & getting back on the court.

The injury struck during Azarenka’s Australian Open title defense in January and the Belarusian has played just one WTA match since, losing her Indian Wells opener to Lauren Davis.

Get well soon, Vika! I hope you’ll get to wear the nice combo Nike made for you at least right after Roland Garros. (photo: © Neal Trousdale)
