Monterrey hosts WTA players’ party to remember

I missed to report about the fun Abierto Monterrey Afirme players’ party right away, but even though I’m featuring the story about it with a two-day delay, it seems that I’m not that much late since the event is still being talked about! Last year the WTA stars turned into zombies, while this time around we got superheroes and supervillains.

The party took place on Sunday night at the VIP Lounge of Club Sonoma. Players had arrived all dressed up, as usual for these parties, before transforming into fictional characters.

Ana Ivanovic was somewhat reluctant to trade her tennis racquet for a whip, but I don’t know why because she’s well-versed in these costume parties, having recently had one similar with her boyfriend in Munich.

However, the Monterrey defending champion quickly embraced the role:

Ivanovic’s last year’s Monterrey opponent in the first-ever WTA all-Serbian final Jovana Jaksic was also among the top names at the party and the world No.144 thoroughly enjoyed it as well.

World No.41 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is the greatest superwoman of this Mexican tournament, having won it in all her three tries, in 2010, 2011 and 2013 (15-0 win-loss record).

Sara Errani, Francesca Schiavone, Caroline Garcia, last weekend’s Acapulco champion Timea Bacsinszky, Alison Riske, Daniela Hantuchova and Magdalena Rybarikova are also enhancing the singles draw.

  1. Emman Damian, players’ parties often seem like just official events or dinners, but this one was really cool and the fact that players were retweeting the photos and mentioning the party even days after it was finished proves my impression.

  2. I agree. Not all WTA events provide interesting off court events such as this one in Monterrey. Kudos to Abierto Monterrey Afirme team for making it possible.

  3. Emman Damian, now we’re eager to see what they will make the theme of their next year’s party! 🙂
