Happy birthday, Aravane Rezai! Comeback in March?

Aravane Rezai used to be one of top WTA names a few years ago, but now we barely get to hear anything about the former world No.15 and since today is her 28th birthday, I think it’s a perfect occasion to enrich our Little Tennis Stars series with her childhood pics and to check what has been going on with this Iranian-French player.

I’ve been following Aravane’s Twitter and I can tell you that she seems to be missing tennis quite a bit, having not played competitively since February 2014, while even her performances in 2012 and 2013 were spotty and unsatisfactory. Besides posting photos from her private life, Aravane regularly shares flashback photos, reminiscent of her successful career moments. I surely will never forget her run to the 2010 Madrid Open title and that outfit! 😀 Remember, Rezai beat Venus Williams in the final? Actually, Venus’ dress remains unforgettable as well! 😀

Besides nostalgia, Aravane’s Twitter and Instagram suggest that she is practicing and actually a month ago she said that she was planning a comeback for March 2015! That’s this month! Here’s what she said:

Working hard to be back hopefully In March !!! Excited !! #work #nopainnogain #determination #motivation #noexcuses #fight #persian #French #Iranian

Let’s get back to super cute childhood portraits now.

And one more flashback, here’s Aravane now, showing her winner’s trophy from Asia ITF Under 16 , when she played for Iran.

Hopefully her family drama has settled and Aravane is ready to enrich the WTA circuit with her game and personality.

  1. It will be interesting to see her play again like Nicole Vaidisova. Personal issues have been one of the reasons why players go on an indefinite leave or totally quit the sport. She’s a great champion and I believe she can still offer more!

  2. Emman Damian, I’d definitely love to see her back, she had special energy on the court. I’m also missing her in my fashion overviews!

  3. Emman Damian, the strange thing about her fashion is that it was pretty much disastrous, but the way she carried it and the fun it brought make me miss it 🙂
