Czech Republic wins 2015 Fed Cup final

In an exciting final day full of surprising turns of events, the Czech Republic defended their Fed Cup title against Russia, beating the Russian squad in the all-deciding last doubles match.

After Day 1, Czechs and Russians were tied at 1-1, then Maria Sharapova opened Day 2 with a thrilling victory over Petra Kvitova, while Karolina Pliskova made the teams even again by beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3 6-4. Czech Karolina Pliskova and Barbora Strycova had the upper hand in doubles, winning the deciding fifth match of the tie by defeating Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Elena Vesnina 4-6 6-3 6-2.
