WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai players’ party

Right after the 2017 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global has finished, with Caroline Wozniacki beating Venus Williams to win the champion’s trophy, the tennis season is getting into its concluding stage with the Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai. The Tier II season-ending finale, as I like to call it, features 12 singles players divided into four groups of three players, while the winner of each group advances to the semifinals. As always, the players kicked off the event by glamming up for the players’ party.

World No.10 Kristina Mladenovic, the tournament’s top seed and leader in the Azalea Group, rocked a blue 3/4 ruffled jumpsuit, pairing it with gold sandals for an elegant look.

Heading the Bougainvillea Group is second seed Coco Vandeweghe, whose 2017 was her best season to date, with two Grand Slam semifinals and a Top 20 debut. At the players’ party, the 25-year-old American posed with Pat Cash, wearing a black knee-length Halston dress featuring sharp waist cutouts.

Reigning US Open champion Sloane Stephens, who is at the top of the Camellia Group as the third seed, exposed her curves in a sparkling V-neck mini dress.

The Rose Group leader is fourth seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who attracted attention with her exposed shoulders and extra long slit sleeves.

Another Rose Group member, former world No.1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber opted for an extravagant black and white dress dominated by imposing shoulder ruffles and contrast loose belt.

Barbora Strycova was in the mood for simplicity, working a neat black turtleneck, long-sleeve dress.

Ashleigh Barty, who has risen from No.325 in the 2016 season-ending WTA rankings to her current career-high No.20 position, showed up in an elegant wrap red dress.

As you can see in the group photo from China, Julia Goerges, Magdalena Rybarikova, Elena Vesnina, Peng Shuai and Anastasija Sevastova also attended the kick-off party.

After Tuesday’s opening ceremony, the tournament starts with a match-up between Coco Vandeweghe and Peng Shuai, followed by Julia Goerges vs. Magdalena Rybarikova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs. Angelique Kerber. (photos via players’ Instagram profiles and the WTA Elite Trophy Instagram)

  1. I have been impressed with how Ashleigh looked both here and in Singapore. She doesn’t come across as a particularly girly girl but she looked really pretty and elegant both times.

  2. Those were some really ugly dresses :(. I never thought I would say anything like that but Strycova hits the top with that black simplicity. But of course, it is not that easy to find a decent dress nowadays….
