Olga Danilovic has officially started stealing the spotlight on the WTA tour, as the 17-year-old ousted top seed and world No.10 Julia Goerges in the quarterfinals of the International-level Moscow River Cup presented by Ingrad. Recording a 6-3 6-3 victory while facing a Top 10 opponent for the first time, Danilovic is expected to bring back the glory of Serbian women’s tennis. By the way, Danilovic had lost in the final round of qualifying in Moscow, but entered the draw at the last moment as a lucky loser.
As I’ve followed her on Instagram for quite some time, I’ve collected these cute childhood photos and now the timing is perfect to share here.
Born in Belgrade in 2001, Olga is the daughter of legendary Serbian former basketball player Predrag Danilovic, who was considered one of the best European shooting guards during the 1990s, and Svetlana Danilovic, a sports reporter for Radio Television of Serbia.
In junior competition, Danilovic has won three different Grand Slams in doubles (Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open). In singles she’s won 4 ITF titles and currently enjoys her career-high ranking of No.187, but the ranking will dramatically improve next week, as the teenager is expected to rise to Top 150 with her semifinal showing, and up to Top 115 if she wins the title.
Danilovic faces fifth seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich in Saturday’s Moscow semifinals.
Good On You. Never Give Up
She’s the next player to put Serbia in the tennis map. Aleksandra Krunic is playing well. I hope Olga will join her in Top 100 soon.
