Trip down the memory lane with Belinda Bencic

Belinda Bencic marked this WTA week with her impressive run to the Dubai title, so I thought it would be nice to take a trip back to her childhood and her first tennis shots, as part of my Little Tennis Stars series.

Belinda may be the only tennis player who can proudly say that the first steps of her life happened on the tennis court, as her parents played recreationally and baby Belinda sometimes accompanied them. It didn’t take long before little Belinda fell in love with the game and already at the age of six she started training every day, at the tennis academy of Martina Hingis‘ mother Melanie Molitor, while she had her first tennis lessons at the age of three.

These are Belinda’s childhood tennis pics, but they are actually not that old, as the Swiss tennis star is still only 21 and many big achievement are yet to be accomplished. So far, Belinda has a lot to be proud of, especially her two Premier 5 titles which included incredible victories — at the 2015 Rogers Cup she beat four out of Top 6 players en route to the champion’s trophy, while at the 2019 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships she pulled off four consecutive three-set victories over Top 10 players.

As tennis fans have witnessed many times, dreams do come true. Look at the photo on the left, tiny Bencic and already legendary Roger Federer, while about ten years later, in 2019, Bencic had the honor of capturing her second Hopman Cup title teamed up with her compatriot.

All these photos are nice, but my absolute favorite is this one below, which I had actually already featured in the Little Tennis Stars series, but I have to reshare it for those of you who haven’t seen it.
