We almost never hear news about former world No.3 and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Nadia Petrova, but that’s changing now as the retired Russian started being active on Instagram, giving us an insight into her peaceful Florida life with her family.
Older readers of this blog definitely remember the grandeur of Petrova’s career — two French Open semifinals, 13 WTA singles titles and 24 doubles titles, victories over both Williams sisters, a 6-0 6-1 win over former world No.1 Kim Clijsters at the 2010 Australian Open (the most lopsided loss in the Belgian’s illustrious career), etc. After injuries finally forced Petrova to make the big decision of quitting tennis in January 2017, we haven’t heard from her, until a few months back, when she began posting photos on social media.
Last July, Anna Chakvetadze informed us on Twitter that Petrova gave birth to a baby girl Victoria and now we can see just how much the big-serving Russian is enjoying her role of being a mom.
Also, these days Petrova is all about wedding planning, as she’s apparently about to get married to her partner, whom we still don’t know anything about, although Petrova did share one photo with him on Valentine’s Day.
We also know that Petrova is still physically active, as exercise remains a big part of her life, and she still hangs out with her Russian WTA friends, especially with fellow new mom Elena Vesnina.
It’s certain that the 36-year-old Petrova will never come back to the sport, but it’s nice to see that she has a good life and that she’s in touch with her friends from the tour. Her booming all-court game definitely made a mark in the strong WTA era dominated by players such as Justine Henin, Amelie Mauresmo, Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriati, and of course the Williams sisters.
