After about three years of dating, Grand Slam champion Sloane Stephens and soccer player Jozy Altidore got engaged and immediately announced the news on Instagram, giving us insight into their big day.
The 26-year-old Stephens posted the above photo with caption “Forever yes”. The 29-year-old Altidore is looking forward to his future with the tennis star and his Instagram post reads “Forever starts now <3”.
Stephens and Altidore have known each other since childhood, having both grown up in Florida, but only in recent years have the romantic sparks started flying. I wrote about their relationship in September 2017, as part of my WTA Players and their Love Partners series, and at the time they were not posting photos of them together on their social media accounts. Later on, they became much more public with their relationship, sharing their vacation, holiday and other special moments on Instagram.
Both Stephens and Altidore have excelled in their careers, so we can say they’re America’s sports power couple. Stephens wrote her name in tennis history by winning the 2017 US Open and she’s still going strong, which is reflected in her No.8 ranking (her highest ranking was No.3). Altidore, the youngest of four children to Haitian immigrants, has made over 100 appearances for the US international soccer team and has played in top leagues in Europe and North America.
Altidore has a four-and-a-half year old son from one previous relationship and Stephens loves spending time with the little guy.
