Our Jimmie48 attended all six first-round matches that opened main-draw action at the 2019 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic on Monday, highlighted by wildcard Daria Kasatkina‘s upset of defending champion Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-2 6-2 and the victorious comeback of American Coco Vandeweghe.

Only two seeded players took the court on Monday and both advanced, No.7 Maria Sakkari with a 6-1 6-4 win over Ekaterina Alexandrova and No.6 Carla Suarez Navarro by defeating Magda Linette 6-3 6-3. Notice Sakkari’s new animal print Nike Air Zoom Zero shoes!

World No.265 Mayo Hibi of Japan stunned Timea Babos 6-2 3-6 7-6(3) and American Kristie Ahn eliminated Ajla Tomljanovic 6-3 4-6 6-4.

We also have photos of the day’s sole doubles match, in which Japan’s Eri Hozumi and Makoto Ninomiya defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Peng Shuai. Bethanie is again attracting attention with her on-court fashion, this time a V-neck top and pleated skirt from her own Super Girl collection created in cooperation with Lucky in Love.

Top players such as Elina Svitolina, Elise Mertens, Amanda Anisimova, Aryna Sabalenka, and Venus Williams talked to the media and played “What’s in the box” challenge.

Stay with us this whole week for more updates from the Premier-level tournament in San Jose.
