Iga Swiatek is the brightest young star this year. The way the 19-year-old brushed aside all her opponents en route to her maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open left us speechless. The Pole was apparently the most prominent representative of Asics in the tennis season behind us, so let’s have a look at all her 2020 outfits as part of my Fashion Retrospections.
Formerly sponsored by Nike, Swiatek joined the Asics family in January. The partnership was launched at the Australian Open where the teenager rocked this classic Asics dress that combines blocks of diva pink, white and peacoat. The design is accented with a front-side graphic inspired by Japanese pleats.
Asics Gel Resolution 8 shoes completed Swiatek’s Melbourne look.
At the Western & Southern Open and the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, Swiatek wore the Asics Fall Club Tank and Skort. The tank features color-blocking, zig-zag stitch detail on the front and mesh back panel for added breathability. The matching wrap skirt is designed with a built-in sprinter short for convenient tennis ball storage. The outfit colors are officially called techno cyan and brilliant white.
At both the US Open and Roland Garros, Swiatek sported the Asics Fall Elite Dress and Gel Resolution 8 shoes. The dress includes a cyan top, orange waist and white skirt. There is a large cutout and gold detailing at back.
Because the French Open was played in late September and early October, the world No.17 always had to wear long sleeves and leggings, so the colorblock dress was completely covered.
This tennis season was way shorter than usual because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so Swiatek had time to promote only a handful of Asics designs.
What do you think of Asics’ role in women’s tennis fashion? Do you like their designs? Tell me in the comments below! (photos: Jimmie48)
