World number six Bianca Andreescu has been forced to withdraw from the Mutua Madrid Open because of a positive COVID-19 test.
The Canadian tennis star feels healthy, but the fact that she tested positive upon her arrival in Madrid is putting her out of the tournament draw. Before traveling to Spain, Andreescu had tested negative twice! Could it be a false positive? Maybe Andreescu should be tested again to confirm the results?
In a message on social media, Andreescu wrote that she was feeling fine:
I am feeling good, I am resting, and continuing to follow the health protocols and safety guidelines. I look forward to getting back on the court very soon.
The 2019 US Open champion’s career is constantly being interrupted. After a 15-month absence caused by a knee injury, she returned to action in February this year. Two tournaments later, she was again forced to retire, in the second set of her Miami Open final against Ashleigh Barty because of a right ankle injury. (photo: Jimmie48)
