A long injury break has officially kicked Simona Halep out of the Top 10 WTA rankings, as the Romanian’s 373-week presence among the elite ended on Monday, August 9.

The 29-year-old Halep entered the Top 10 on January 27, 2014. The eighth longest streak of consecutive weeks spent in the Top 10 has come to an end, as Halep has dropped down to position No.13.

Most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 (1975-2021):

1000 Martina Navratilova
746 Chris Evert
625 Steffi Graf
508 Gabriela Sabatini
458 Pam Shriver
429 Arantxa Sanchez Vicario
421 Hana Mandlikova
373 Simona Halep
333 Lindsay Davenport
319 Conchita Martinez
314 Martina Hingis
293 Venus Williams
276 Serena Williams

Halep is now at the National Bank Open in Montreal, finally ready to launch her comeback from a calf injury that forced her to retire from Rome in May and then skip Roland Garros, Wimbledon and Tokyo Olympics. The Romanian who won the tournament in 2016 and 2018 will face either newly-crowned San Jose champion Danielle Collins or Jil Teichmann in the second round.

In other news, French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova entered the Top 10 in singles for the first time.
