Sitting on the floor in the comfort of her home decorated for Christmas, Lucie Safarova showed her baby bump and announced that year 2022 will bring a new baby to her family.
The former doubles world No.1 and singles No.5 Safarova, her hockey player husband Tomas Plekanec and their two-year-old daughter Lea are enjoying the holiday season together, as they’re expecting a new family member to arrive next year.

The retired tennis star announced the happy news:
Merry xmas and happy holidays everyone! Lea is excited for Santa and for her new sibling to come to our family next year! We are thankful and very happy!
The 34-year-old Safarova gave birth to her first child in December 2019 and got married to her baby’s father in September 2021. Judging by her baby bump now, we can assume that she was pregnant at the wedding.
Safarova’s husband Tomas Plekanec is a father of three, soon to be four, as he also has sons Matyas and Adam from his marriage to Czech singer/actress Lucie Vondrackova.
The five-time Grand Slam doubles champion Safarova quit tennis after the 2019 French Open, where she played doubles alongside Dominika Cibulkova.
