Bianca Andreescu is yet to enter a tennis tournament this year. After the 2022 Miami Open, the former Top 5 player will exit the Top 100.
Bianca Andreescu held on to her ranking for a long time
The last tournament Andreescu played was the 2021 BNP Paribas Open which took place last October. For the longest time Andreescu had retained her position inside the Top 10, mostly owing to the revised WTA ranking system because of the pandemic. After her fourth-round loss at the 2021 US Open, the Canadian dropped out of the Top 10 for the first time since September 2019.
Losing Miami Open points
Right now Andreescu is world No.44, with 1198 points, but when the WTA rankings are updated following the Miami Open, the Canadian will be out of the Top 100, down to at least No.119. The reason is that she is not playing the Miami Open, where she reached the final last year, retiring against world No.1 Ashleigh Barty in the title match. This means that she will lose 650 points that she earned with the runner-up position at the WTA 1000 tournament in 2021.

While we’re waiting for Andreescu to return to competition, the 2019 US Open champion seems to be hinting a comeback. She posted a tournament photo of herself, suggesting that she’s motivated to play again. The hourglass in the caption indicates that a comeback is near.
Leylah Fernandez is Canada’s top ranked WTA player. Rebecca Marino will replace Andreescu as Canada’s No.2 after the Miami Open.
We miss her since she is very very important for the game. Let’s hope the WTA is keeping close contact with her to make sure that everything is ok in terms of her Mental Wellness and for her much-anticipated return.
We all had to deal with Covid, most of us without the luxury of dropping out of work. A new DSM syndrome “spoiled brat syndrome “ also known as tennisitis!
