It turns out that the vibrant Adidas’ US Open Series collection is just for tournaments leading up to the season’s final Grand Slam, as the company has now unveiled brand new tennis apparel ready for New York. Working together with South African luxury designer Thebe Magugu, the three-stripe brand created colorful and expressive outfits that celebrate community, heritage, and identity.
The collection features abstract artwork of a woman dancing, designed in collaboration with artist Phathu Nembilwi, and influenced by Thebe’s mother, aunt and grandmother. The color palette includes bright orange and yellow hues, accents of shock pink, backgrounded by pulse lilac.
This first of two drops with the South African designer spans across sports, so besides tennis we have apparel for running, swimming, training, football, and cycling, as well as casual lifestyle garments. Focusing on inclusivity, Thebe’s collection also offers modesty swimwear, XL to 4XL sizing, and gender-neutral pieces.
The Adidas New York Dress is the brand’s classic Y-back silhouette, a 2-in-1 piece that comes with a separate coordinating shortie. The abstract graphic that looks like paint stains is inspired by a woman dancing. The garment is made in part with recycled materials.
The Adidas New York Tank has an integrated bra and elastic Y-straps. The following versions are available: the above-shown black with semi pulse lilac, ecru tint with impact orange (pictured below), and white with semi pulse lilac. The models are pairing the tanks with the Adidas Core Gameset Match Skirt – Black and Adidas Fall Gameset Match Skirt – Orange.
The Adidas New York 2-in-1 Tight comes with a separate skirt and 7/8 tight that has a side pocket for storage and a wide elastic waistband with drawcord.
Designer Thebe Magugu commented:
I’m infinitely inspired by the energy of the women in my life and the heritage of my native land. Bringing together such personal stories through design and blending them with Adidas’ iconic performance and lifestyle pieces has been an amazing process. The collection really celebrates all the positive influences around me, and a sense of community that is so important to me. I hope it inspires the same joyful feeling in those who wear it.

I really wish Adidas would ditch the crazy prints and just got back to their more uniform/simplistic style
