Swiatek went a double break up 4-1, when Paolini started showing signs of the ability to threaten the top seed, but the world No.56’s two straight breaks were immediately neutralized by the Pole who overall comfortably won the first set.

The second set of the meeting between two Asics-sponsored players was even more straightforward, as Swiatek bageled her opponent.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek, who has never been past the fourth round in Flushing Meadows, is trying to become the first Polish woman to reach the quarterfinals at the US Open in the Open Era. Her opponent in the second round will be 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens, who recovered from a 6-1 2-0 deficit to beat Greet Minnen in three sets.
