Today was a big day for On apparel brand and tennis fashion, as world No.1 Iga Swiatek played her first match in the gear from her new clothing sponsor and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
Following her recovery from a rib injury that had kept her out of play for more than a month, Swiatek returned to the court in Stuttgart for her title defense with a commanding 6-1 6-4 victory over China’s Zheng Qinwen in the second round. This match holds a special significance as it not only marks Swiatek’s first win of the 2023 clay-court season but also her debut on-court appearance in On tennis apparel (last month in Miami, the former Asics representative wore On during an off-court photoshoot). This momentous occasion is also a significant milestone for the On brand, as they have never before sponsored a WTA star’s clothing.
Thanks to Jimmie48, we already have access to photos of three-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek in her new black-and-white On ensemble. The solid black skirt is paired with a full-coverage tank featuring an intricate swirl print. While Swiatek currently wears her Asics Gel Resolution 9 footwear, On is well-known for their shoes co-designed by legend Roger Federer and it’s anticipated that the top-ranked WTA player will switch to them in the future.
Swiatek’s quarterfinal obstacle at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix will be the 2018 Stuttgart champion and former world No.1 Karolina Pliskova, who outlasted Donna Vekic in a third-set tiebreak.
Nothing extra but still better than Asics 😀
She’s still wearing asics shoes. Also, this supposed new stuff very On the same boring note as Asics.
