Reigning Wimbledon singles champion Marketa Vondrousova and doubles winner Barbora Strycova are joining forces for a doubles partnership at the upcoming US Open. This unexpected collaboration has already set the tennis world abuzz with anticipation, and we’ve got all the exciting details right here!

Marketa Vondrousova and Barbora Strycova doubles partners

Four years ago, these two Czech players shared the spotlight at the Australian Open, where they made the semifinals. As Strycova fondly recalled, the dynamic duo formed spontaneously due to unforeseen circumstances: “There we agreed two days beforehand. One of our partners got sick or injured then. We played really well together.”

After giving birth to son Vincent in September 2021, Strycova returned to the WTA Tour at the 2023 Madrid Open. The upcoming US Open holds special significance for her, as she has announced that it will be her last tournament before bidding farewell to professional tennis. What better way to mark the end of a storied career than by partnering with none other than a newly-crowned Wimbledon singles champion?

Strycova expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a nice story. She’s a Wimbledon singles winner, I’m a doubles winner, and we’re playing my last tournament together. I’m grateful that we’re going to play together.”

It was Strycova who proposed the partnership to Vondrousova, as Hsieh-Su-Wei, with whom Strycova triumphed in women’s doubles at Wimbledon 2023, will play with Wang Xinyu at the US Open. (source: Ceske Noviny)

  1. Karo, it can happen, especially given that Vondrousova was a surprise champion at Wimbledon. I suppose she will manage to land a deal soon. Who knows, maybe with Lululemon, since she’s wearing their attire. Look at Hsieh Su-Wei, she still doesn’t have a clothing sponsor and she’s won 6 Grand Slam doubles titles.

  2. Yes I really can’t understand the deal w sponsorships. Aoyama has a clothing deal, not having won any slams but su Wei or dabrowski do not. What gives?
