Two years after launching her first signature tennis shoe, the New Balance CG1, reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff is back with the highly anticipated New Balance CG2. This second iteration continues to build on the success of its predecessor while introducing new design elements and performance enhancements that make it a must-have for tennis players.

Aesthetic and performance: The perfect blend
When Coco Gauff first introduced the CG1, she emphasized the importance of the basketball-inspired silhouette, which provided her with the support and stability necessary for her aggressive playing style. The CG2 retains this one-of-a-kind design in the tennis world, ensuring that the aesthetic appeal and on-court performance remain consistent.

“I loved the mid-top design of the CG1 not just for the aesthetic, but also for how much support and stability it gives me on the court,” Gauff explained to Forbes’ Tim Newcomb. “There was no question we would keep the same mid-top for the CG2.”
But the CG2 goes beyond just maintaining what worked well in the CG1. This new version offers enhanced breathability and comfort, allowing Coco—and anyone who wears the shoe—to move more freely on the court. The shoe’s upper features updated materials that provide a lightweight yet supportive feel, ensuring that players can make quick, lateral cuts with ease.
A design that tells a story
The CG2 isn’t just about performance; it’s also a deeply personal expression of who Coco is, both on and off the court. Several design elements pay homage to her and her family’s shared initials—CG. The initials are etched into the toe rubber on the front of the shoe and subtly incorporated into the outsole in an abstract design. This connection to her family is a reminder of the support system that has been with her throughout her journey to becoming a tennis champion.
Additionally, Coco’s signature appears in a tennis ball on the tongue and on the heel pull of the left shoe, while the number “two” adorns the right heel pull. This design choice highlights the CG2’s significance as the second iteration of her signature shoe. The words “power” and “grace” are also thoughtfully placed on the backside of the woven labels on the shoes, embodying the qualities that define Coco’s presence on the court.
Built for performance
The CG2 isn’t just a pretty shoe; it’s packed with performance features designed to elevate a player’s game. The midsole features Energy Arc carbon fiber plate technology, which increases energy return, helping players stay quick on their feet. FuelCell cushioning provides a plush feel underfoot, ensuring comfort throughout long matches. The outsole is designed with multi-surface functionality, offering versatile performance and excellent traction on all court surfaces. Plus, New Balance’s NDurance six-month outsole durability guarantee ensures that the shoe is built to last, no matter how intense the game gets.
Power and Grace: The New York-inspired colorway
The first colorway of the CG2, dubbed “Power and Grace,” is a tribute to New York City, a place where Coco won her maiden Grand Slam title last year at the US Open. The oxidized blue shade represents the iconic Statue of Liberty, while the bright, vibrant hue known as “30 Watt” captures the city’s dazzling lights.
Coco’s vision brought to life
The New Balance Coco CG2 is more than just a tennis shoe—it’s a reflection of Coco Gauff’s journey, her values, and her unique style. By combining innovative performance features with thoughtful design elements, the CG2 allows players to express their individuality on the court while benefiting from the latest in tennis shoe technology.
