Former world No. 1 Angelique Kerber successfully defended her title at the Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters, defeating Yanina Wickmayer in the final to lift the trophy for the second consecutive year at the exhibition event featuring retired WTA stars.

The three-time Grand Slam champion, who quit professional tennis in July 2024, made history by becoming the first player to win the Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters twice. Kerber sealed her latest triumph with a convincing 6-4 6-2 victory over Wickmayer. During her post-match speech, the 38-year-old German hinted at a possible return to Luxembourg in 2027, leaving the door open to another title defense.

The Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters is an invitational tournament featuring internationally renowned former players who no longer hold active WTA rankings. The event’s lineup typically includes players who have reached the world’s Top 10 and Top 50 during their careers. Alongside the two finalists, this year’s field featured Monica Puig, Tatjana Golovin, Agnieszka Radwanska, Alize Cornet, Petra Kvitova, Magdalena Rybarikova.
Following her triumph, Kerber took to Instagram to reflect on her brief return to competition. “Nothing quite like being back on court. The fans, the atmosphere and sharing the court with fellow legends made this past week so special,” she wrote.
Kerber’s last match before retiring came at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Since then, the German has welcomed two children, daughter Liana in February 2023 and son Ben in June 2025.
