There were no surprises in the second-round matches of Li Na and Agnieszka Radwanska.
Li Na cruised through her match against Sofia Arvidsson, ranked 100th, 6-2 6-2 in just 64 minutes. There was fear in the air that the match would have to be postponed because of the storm covering New York, and Li was on course for a quick win, however, she didn’t rush and pay attention to the weather, but to every single point, as she stated after the match. The fifth seed at the end looked like she didn’t even sweat in this game.
On the other hand, the match between Agnieszka Radwanska and Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor had its ups and downs. Radwanska won the first set with a bagel in just 21 minutes, but in the second set Torro-Flor played much better, even though she had a lot of double faults which the fourth-ranked Radwanska knew how to exploit and the end result was 6-0 7-5 in an hour and 27 minutes. The third-seeded Pole progressed into the third round where she will meet seed No.32 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. (photo: © Neal Trousdale)
