The final of the Nürnberger Versicherungscup will feature second seed and world No.19 Eugenie Bouchard and unseeded world No.64 Karolina Pliskova. Even though Bouchard is the favorite in this match and is a bigger WTA name than her opponent, she is the one looking for her first WTA title in this final, while Pliskova has the 2013 Kuala Lumpur trophy in her résumé. Both will be playing the third WTA final of their careers.
The first to win in Friday’s semifinals was Pliskova, who upset fourth seed Elina Svitolina 2-6 6-1 6-2 by winning ten straight games from a set and a break down. Bouchard defeated Karin Knapp 6-4 6-3. We will see what Saturday’s final has in store for us. Bouchard beat Pliskova in their only previous meeting, at the 2013 US Open, but after a 4-6 6-4 7-5 fight.
Pliskova is really enjoying the German tournament. She reached the doubles final as well, teamed up with Michaella Krajicek. (photo: Jimmie48)
