The unstable 2020 tennis calendar is having another tournament scratched off — the October’s VTB Kremlin Cup will not be played because of a recent increase in the coronavirus infection rate in the Russian capital.
The WTA issued a statement:
The WTA continues to monitor the situation closely and work with medical experts, as protecting the health and safety of our WTA community is of utmost importance. The Tour continues to remain vigilant in managing this challenging situation and playing as much tennis as it is safe to do so.
Moscow was supposed to be the last tournament on the 2020 WTA calendar, but now Linz is closing this season. After this week’s Internazionali BNL d’Italia, we’ll have the Internationaux de Strasbourg, then Roland Garros starting September 27th, then newly-added J&T Banka Ostrava Open, followed by Hana Bank Korea Open and Upper Austria Ladies Linz.
