Venus Williams played just four tournaments in 2022, with a 0-4 win-loss record in singles, but the tennis legend is not giving up and she’s training hard to continue her tennis career.
While tennis community is assuming that Venus is heading towards retirement given her age and sub-par results in recent years, the seven-time Grand Slam champion is assuring us that the end is not near. In her latest YouTube video, entitled “Venus Williams life update: Her biggest YouTube update EVER”, the 42-year-old reveals that she’s been hitting the court a lot and the only thing she’s still uncertain about is the exact date of her next competition:
I’ve been playing a lot of tennis. […] I love tennis and I would like to play again. I’ll let you know exactly when.
Right after her doubles loss in the first round of the US Open, Venus hit the court and has been practicing hard ever since. The American has been working on her forehand, serve, slice, and volley. On top of her regular tennis practice, Venus has been spending a lot of time in the gym lifting weights, especially to improve her leg strength, with the focus on quads.
This is great news! Forties are the new thirties and WTA fans sure want to have V around as long as possible, especially now that her sister Serena has retired.
In the video, Venus also shares what she’s been up to in her free time recently. The most stunning fact is just how many concerts she attended in the recent period in different cities (from London to Toronto, New York, and Washington D.C.): Pearl Jam, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Green Day, Toadies, Tears for Fears, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Alice in Chains, and more. Who else wants V’s social life?
