Former world No.12 Sabine Lisicki is joining the mom club in 2024. The German tennis player shared her exciting news on Instagram on International Women’s Day.
In a heartwarming announcement, Lisicki posted a carousel of photos. The first image features a pair of hands, hers and her partner’s, against the backdrop of an exotic beach with clear blue skies and sea. The caption intriguingly invites followers to “Swipe for a surprise.” The second photo reveals the big news with a beautifully decorated frame adorned with flowers and tiny white baby sandals, announcing, “Surprise, baby coming 2024.”
The 34-year-old Lisicki expressed her joy in the caption, saying, “Life is full of unexpected surprises. My fiancé and I are looking forward to this exciting journey. And…I guess I will have to make one more comeback.”
Despite facing debilitating injuries throughout her career, including a major anterior cruciate ligament tear in November 2020 at the Upper Austria Ladies Open, Lisicki remains determined to continue her tennis journey. Describing the severity of her most recent injury, she said, “I broke everything in my knee that can be broken.” Following surgery and extensive rehabilitation, Lisicki defied the odds and began her comeback in May 2022, participating in minor clay-court events.
Her resilience paid off when she won her first main draw match on the Hologic WTA Tour since 2018 as a wildcard at the Bad Homburg Open in June 2022. Continuing her comeback, the 2013 Wimbledon runner-up achieved a remarkable milestone by winning her first title in nine years at the Calgary Challenger, an ITF W60 tournament, in November 2023. Her last tournament was an ITF event in Dubai in December 2023.
Oh…I didn’t know Sabine was engaged…
Congrats to Sabine on her engagement and on her pregnancy! All the best to her and her Fiance!
