In a conversation with Valeria Lipovetsky on her podcast, tennis star Genie Bouchard confirmed that she ended her year-and-a-half-long relationship with Jack Brinkley-Cook, son of the famous model Christie Brinkley.
During the podcast, Lipovetsky asked Bouchard to reflect on the breakup, without specifically naming her ex, and her thoughts on the relationship, which had been public since October 2022 and became Instagram official in September 2023.
“It just wasn’t the right fit”
Bouchard confirmed the end of the relationship, sharing that while it had been a significant chapter of her life, it ultimately wasn’t the right fit. “I feel great,” the 2014 Wimbledon finalist admitted. “Obviously, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’m 30 now,’ but you gotta do what’s right for you. It ended well, it ended fine.” Despite the breakup, Bouchard expressed optimism, feeling more in tune with herself now. “I feel a little more authentic to myself right now. I’m very excited and optimistic about the future. I’m in my new single girl phase.”
Embracing independence
When asked if she was eager to jump into a new relationship or if she was embracing her single life, Bouchard was clear: she’s enjoying her independence. “I feel really content with myself. I don’t feel the need to rush into something else. I really am enjoying being by myself, being independent.”
Bouchard went on to explain how, even during her past relationships, she often found herself alone due to her rigorous tennis schedule and constant traveling. “In my 20s, I dated, but I also had long periods of being single… even when I was in a relationship, I was alone most of the time because I’m traveling. It was very long-distance.”
This time, Bouchard is taking the opportunity to reconnect with herself and the independent side of her personality that she feels sometimes gets overshadowed in relationships.
A bright future ahead
Genie Bouchard’s outlook on the future is undeniably positive. She’s stepping into this new chapter of her life with confidence, a sense of self-assurance, and excitement for what lies ahead. The breakup has opened the door for Bouchard to focus on herself, her career, and whatever the future holds.
