Alize Cornet is experiencing the joy of a fresh start on the tennis court, just ten months after her emotional retirement at Roland Garros 2024. With a victory under her belt and a smile on her face, the 35-year-old French player is embracing her comeback with the enthusiasm of a teenager. The Grand Slam in Paris, however, is not on her schedule this year.
The former world No. 11 Cornet is currently in Spain, playing the WTA 125 La Bisbal d’Emporda event. She started off strong with a 6-1 6-2 victory over world No. 231 Irene Burillo Escorihuela. In an interview shared on the tournament’s Instagram, Cornet opened up about her tennis plans and emphasized that Roland Garros will not be part of her return in.

“It’s a very special moment for me, because I haven’t played a lot of tennis since ten months,” Cornet shared. “Just the last two months I got ready for this tournament and some others.”
“I trained really hard to be ready for this tournament, for my comeback. And now my tennis is going very well, but I think the most important is that I enjoy my time on the court. I enjoy being on the court, I smile all the time, I feel like a teenager a little bit.”
Although Cornet had initially planned to start her comeback at the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen, France, from April 14-20, she couldn’t wait and decided to jump into the La Bisbal d’Emporda event in Costa Brava.
