Thirty-one-year-old Caroline Garcia is in Paris, preparing for what will be the last Roland Garros of her career. The Frenchwoman has announced on social media that she is saying goodbye to tennis, ready to focus on her personal goals.
As she awaits her first-round match against Bernarda Pera at the French Open on Sunday, Garcia dropped a bombshell, that the Grand Slam is one of the last tournaments in her long tennis career:
After 15 years competing at the highest level, and more than 25 years putting pretty much every second of my life into it, I feel ready to start a new chapter. […] Still, this is not over—not just yet. I have a few tournaments left. The first one is at home, at Roland Garros. My 14th consecutive time being part of it. And my last.
Last June, Garcia got engaged to her long-time partner, Borja Duran. Just a few months later, in September, she made the difficult decision to end her season early, citing overwhelming mental and physical exhaustion: “I’m exhausted from the anxiety, the panic attacks, the tears before matches,” she wrote at the time. “Tired of missing out on family moments and never having a place to truly call home.”
Dear tennis,
It’s time to say goodbye.

She returned to the Hologic WTA Tour at the 2025 Australian Open, where she lost in the first round to Naomi Osaka. Since her comeback, Garcia has recorded just three singles wins this season.
The 11-time WTA title winner shared more reflections in her latest post, offering an honest and emotional look back on her life as an athlete:
“My tennis journey hasn’t always been easy. Since my early days, tennis has been much more than just winning or losing. It’s been love or hate. Happiness or anger. Still, I’m deeply grateful for this journey—for everything tennis has given me, and for how much it’s helped me become a strong, passionate, hard-working woman. But now, it’s time for something else. My body and my personal goals need it.“
