In a clash between first-time Wimbledon semifinalists, five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek completely dominated unseeded Belinda Bencic, cruising to a commanding 6-2 6-0 victory.
Swiatek dominated the opening set, never facing a break point and sealing it with a love break. The eighth seed was nearly flawless on serve, dropping just two points behind her first delivery. While both players kept their unforced errors low, it was Swiatek who took control of the rallies, hitting twice as many winners as Bencic. The second set was even more one-sided, with Bencic unable to claim a single game.
Former world No. 1 Swiatek is through to her first Wimbledon final, having won the junior title at SW19 in 2018. The Pole’s final opponent in her quest for a sixth major title will be Amanda Anisimova, who impressed against top seed Aryna Sabalenka earlier on Thursday. This will be the first career meeting between the two players.
