It has been more than five years since Maria Sharapova retired from professional tennis, yet her influence on the sport’s fashion narrative remains as vivid as ever. On Monday night at the US Open, the five-time Grand Slam champion once again proved that her sartorial instincts are as sharp as her on-court legacy.

For the ceremony where she received her Hall of Fame ring from fellow legend Kim Clijsters, Sharapova arrived in an elegant black dress that subtly reimagined one of her most iconic looks: the Nike design she wore en route to the 2006 US Open title. This appearance at the US Open followed Sunday’s official Hall of Fame induction, where Serena Williams delivered a moving tribute.

That original dress, remembered for its chic little-black-dress appeal and glimmering rounded neckline, remains one of the most recognizable statements of Sharapova’s career. Nearly two decades later, Nike Atelier brought it back to life—this time in a longer, more graceful silhouette that felt perfectly tailored to the occasion and Sharapova’s own evolution. The neckline remained a direct homage to the 2006 original, while the updated cut and length elevated the design into evening-wear sophistication.

The ensemble is accentuated with a series of personal touches: five stars embroidered to honor Sharapova’s Grand Slam victories; a sleek, tailored jacket fastened with a custom button computationally designed from an algorithm based on her son’s birthday; a modern metallic hairpiece; a wraparound Swoosh bracelet; and a custom interpretation of Nike’s Shox Z, the new sportswear silhouette set to launch later this year.

Sharapova’s collaboration with Nike throughout her career produced a treasure trove of fashion moments that continue to inspire both fans and designers. Monday’s look was more than just a nod to the past. It was a reminder that Sharapova’s legacy is stitched not only into the record books but also into the very fabric of tennis style.

Once again, Maria Sharapova delivered a fashion ace!
