For tennis fans buzzing about a possible Serena Williams comeback, nobody’s opinion carries more weight than Sascha Bajin‘s, Serena’s long-time hitting partner and coach. Bajin, who worked with the 23-time Grand Slam champion for over eight years and even lived with her for 3.5 years, shared his exclusive reaction to the news that Serena, after more than three years away from competition, officially becomes eligible to play again on February 22, having completed all necessary filings with the International Tennis Integrity Agency.

While no one knows for sure whether Serena will step back into the spotlight, the mere possibility has sent waves of excitement through the tennis world. And no one is familiar with her game, her mindset, or her fire better thanBajin, who shared his raw, unfiltered reaction to the potential comeback:
“First thought was, ‘Let’s fu**ing gooo!’ Oh my God, I’m so excited—I’m missing Serena, I’m missing her on Tour, I’m missing her play,” he said.

But he also tempered his excitement with a dose of reality: He hopes Serena doesn’t draw some of the players who are capable of beating her. While Bajin is convinced that Serena can play great tennis for 60 minutes, maybe even 90, the real question is whether she can sustain that level every day throughout a tournament.
Bajin is certain of one thing: the American is not returning for money, publicity, or simply out of boredom. She has two children and numerous business ventures, she’s very busy, but what drives her back to the court is pure competitiveness. “That competitor inside her is burning,” Bajin explained.
So, does Bajin believe Serena is really coming back? His answer is clear:
“Honestly, do I think she’s coming back? I do believe so.”
All eyes are now on the upcoming Austin tournament, starting February 23, where Serena could make her long-awaited return. Adding to the buzz, Venus Williams has already accepted a wildcard into the event, setting the stage for what could be one of the most exciting comebacks in tennis history. If not in Austin, people are speculating that the Sunshine Swing could be her first stop. Let’s wait a bit more and see.
