The start of the 2016 season turns out to be very busy when it comes to clothing sponsor switches. Just days after learning that Elina Svitolina left Ellesse for Nike, Julia Goerges announced that her apparel will no longer be Fila, but Asics, while at the Brisbane International Timea Bacsinszky wore Asics as well, and not her earlier sponsor Lacoste. That’s not all! Even though Fila lost Goerges, the company signed a new big name, Karolina Pliskova. Wow, I don’t remember we’ve ever had this many clothing sponsor changes in such a short period of time.
Posting this photo on Twitter, the world No.50 Goerges told the world that from now on she would wear Asics, joining WTA players such as Samantha Stosur, Coco Vandeweghe, Francesca Schiavone, Daria Gavrilova, and others.
On the other hand, world No.12 Timea Bacsinszky made no official announcement, at least not yet, but in her first-round loss to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Brisbane, the Swiss player was sporting an Asics kit.
Bacsinszky’s outfit included the berry Asics Spring Athlete Tank with colorblocking mesh panels and its coordinating skirt.
Karolina Pliskova is in Perth this week and alongside her Hopman Cup partner Jiri Vesely the Czech looked stylish in the Fila Fall Platinum Asymmetrical Tank and the black Fila Fall Platinum Asymmetrical Skirt.
UPDATE: On January 9th Timea finally officially confirmed her new clothing contract, posting this photo on Twitter.
I think the Fila clothes will suit Kristina as they generally have clean lines. She is very slim and has been swamped by some of the previous designs she has worn.
Very smart move by FILA ( maybe they read WTB :D) all of their representatives are fading stars and many of their designs were wasted because goerges wasn’t giving them enough exposure. Pliskova has a lot of potential and hopefully we’ll get more great designs exclusively for her from fila. I think if they can add another young and top representative they will be be constantly talked about along with NIKE and Adidas
It’s really fun when we see players transfer from one sponsor to another as it gives us more fashion reviews and new designs/collections are usually launched.
Well fila outfit sucked for julia. asics outfits are even worse urgh!!!
Sru, well they probably do actually 🙂 I have direct email contact with Fila and they send me outfit announcements. Talking about that, they promised to send me info about the AO clothes, I should remind them… Indeed, Pliskova is a great new addition to Fila, the brand which created a considerable number of really beautiful outfits which did not receive nearly enough exposure.
