French tennis legend Amelie Mauresmo announced at a press conference on Monday that she is pregnant with her second child.
As you may recall, Amelie gave birth to a boy named Aaron in August 2015 and now she’s announced that she is expecting her second child in April 2017. The 37-year-old revealed it to the media on Monday at a press conference following the Fed Cup final in Strasbourg. She also announced her retirement from the position of French Fed Cup team captain:
I am expecting a child for April 2017 and that interferes with the Fed Cup schedule. The first round is in February (11th and 12th) and, if the girls win, the semifinals would be in April (22nd and 23rd).
That came as a shock for the French Fed Cup team, who was unaware of Amelie’s pregnancy and retirement plans, but Amelie said she kept the news a secret because she didn’t want the team to worry about the future, so that they could focus on the final.
The announcement quickly went viral and French players were very prompt to react:
