Sharapova gets rid of black and white Nike dress to stop bad luck

SharapovaSuperstitious or not, Maria Sharapova has decided that the best thing to do is to auction off her beautiful, but unlucky, US Open day dress.

Sharapova wore the dress only two times, and both times she was upset too early in a tournament. The first time was at the 2007 US Open when as defending champion she lost in the third round to Polish teenager Agnieszka Radwanska. Then, Sharapova didn’t compete for some time, and returned at Kremlin Cup, in the first half of October, when she suffered another loss, this time in the second round, to Belarus’ 18-year-old Victoria Azarenka.

Now matter how beautiful the Nike dress is, it’s apparent that it doesn’t remind Sharapova of anything good, so why not give it up.

The dress has been autographed by Sharapova and is being auctioned off to benefit her Foundation. The auction will end on Wednesday, October 31st, at 3pm eastern time.
