Ana Ivanovic and Lindsay Davenport advanced into the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open with comfortable wins and will next face each other.
Second-seeded Ivanovic defeated Frenchwoman Emilie Loit 6-1 6-2, while three-time Grand Slam champion Davenport beat another French player Camille Pin 6-2 6-1.
Ivanovic defeated world No.93 Loit in just 47 minutes. You can hardly finish a match faster than this. In addition, the Serb only dropped a total of six points on her own serve.
Davenport made her first appearance at the Tier I tournament in Miami after a five-year absence. In today’s match, Pin struggled with injury and Davenport said she realized Pin wasn’t able to run down as many balls as she could if she hadn’t been injured.
The match-up at the Sony Ericsson will be the first career meeting between Ivanovic and Davenport.
