Former world No.1 Lindsay Davenport beat one of the favorites for the Sony Ericsson Open title, second seed Ana Ivanovic. Can Davenport’s return get any better?
Davenport, who has great appreciation for Ivanovic, confidently beat the Indian Wells champion 6-4 6-2 in the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open and ended the Serb’s hardcourt campaign.
As they say on Ivanovic’s website, “Davenport simply did not miss.” The American started strong and controlled the match. World No.2 Ivanovic showed some brief signs of resistance, but Davenport was simply unstoppable and completed victory in 77 minutes.
Today’s match in Miami has been the first career meeting between three-times Grand Slam champion Lindsay Davenport, currently ranked 33rd in the world, and world No.2 Ana Ivanovic.
