Fourth-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova followed Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic out of Wimbledon. For the first time in history none of the top four women’s seeds have reached the quarterfinals at the All England Club.
Kuznetsova was defeated in the fourth round by world No.11 Agnieszka Radwanska. The 19-year-old Pole, who won the Eastbourne title before arriving at Wimbledon, broke the Russian at 5-3 and 5-5 in the decider before serving out for a 6-4 1-6 7-5 triumph.
In the quarterfinals Radwanska will play sixth seed Serena Williams.
Other quarterfinal pairs are Zheng Jie (the first ever women’s wildcard to reach the Wimbledon last eight) vs. Nicole Vaidisova, Elena Dementieva (the highest seed left) vs. Nadia Petrova, defending champion Venus Williams vs. Tamarine Tanasugarn.
