Ana Ivanovic advances at Rogers Cup in three sets

Top-ranked Ana Ivanovic passed the test of Petra Kvitova, defeating the Czech 6-3 4-6 6-3 in the second round of the Rogers Cup.

Ivanovic, who is unbeaten in the city of Montreal, having won there in 2006, overcame nine double faults and dropping her serve five times in her first meeting with world No. 64 Kvitova.

Ivanovic will need to make better result at the Rogers Cup than her competitors world No.2 Jelena Jankovic and No.3 Maria Sharapova in order to stay on the top of the rankings.

Additional info: Two upsets happened on the third day of the Rogers Cup so far: Stella McCartney-clad Maria Kirilenko, seeded 13th, was knocked out by local player Stephanie Dubois 6-2 2-6 7-6, while No.15 seed Flavia Pennetta lost to qualifier Larcher De Brito of Portugal 6-3 0-6 6-3.
