Seventh seed Venus Williams didn’t need to work much to get past Rossana De Los Rios of Paraguay and move into the third round of the US Open, the tournament she won in 2000 and 2001.

The five-time Wimbledon champion defeated her 113-ranked opponent in 59 minutes. Williams won 6-0 6-3 despite making 17 unforced errors and wasting four match points on her serve at 5-3 up before finally beating De Los Rios on the fifth.

Venus Williams will next play seed No.27 Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine.
