Russia’s Maria Sharapova advanced to the second round of the LA Women’s Tennis Championships by defeating Slovakia’s world No.60 Jarmila Groth 6-0 6-4.
Sharapova said after the match that Groth’s plan was to attack from every possible angle. However, Sharapova returned many of those balls, and advanced despite being inconsistent in the second set.
World No.61 Sharapova will next face third seed Victoria Azarenka.
BTW: The winner last week at Stanford, Marion Bartoli, withdrew from the LA Women’s Tennis Championships due to a right calf strain. (photo: Ralf Reinecke)
Next match against Azarenka should be a good one…
I agree with you Ms. Karolina, I’ll pick Azarenka to move to next round.
I think that Maria has a pretty good chance in this match against Azarenka! But she will have to play with her 1st serve (something that has been a problem to her in the past tournaments), and, also, will have to move around the court little bit better.
Yup, I’m with Azrenka on this one…. she moves much better than Sharapova.
I like Azarenka but to be honest she is a copy of Maria and Sharapova will win if she bring her A game
heheheh maria beat azarenka!
Yeah! That’s a great result for Masha!
