Former world No.1 Kim Clijsters has been having an amazing comeback, and has now upset Marion Bartoli for the second time since returning to the Tour.
The 14th-seeded Bartoli fell to Clijsters 5-7 6-1 6-2 in the second round of the US Open, less than a month after losing to the Belgian in Cincinnati.
The 26-year-old Clijsters is playing just her third event after a two-year-long break and a child birth, and has so far seen nothing but success.
Clijsters’ next opponent will be compatriot Kirsten Flipkens, ranked 93rd in the world.
Kim has come just in the right moment. I mean… she’s a complete veteran, but defenitely she’s a breath of fresh air to the women’s tennis right now. Let’s face it: we’re now living a HORRIBLE era for women’s tennis: there are no leading players. The number one player hasn’t win a major. 40 of the 50 first ranked players are just hitters: they hit the ball as hard as they can and they try to win the match that way. You just have to look up to the Williamses, Sharapova, Safina and the rest of the russians. What would you say 5 or 6 years ago if they told you a player could win a match with 56 unforced errors and tons of double faults? These players are doing it every day, even in Slams! So… is there any sourprise in Kim winning top 10 players? NO!! She’s just a player who can hit the ball and place it wherever she wants to whenever she wants to! Now, THAT’S real tennis. She should come to #1 to show all those hitters how they should play tennis to start winning consistently.
