The third round between Nadia Petrova and Aravane Rezai was suspended at 6-7(2) 6-4 7-7 on Friday due to darkness and both players went to sleep knowing they had blown three match points. The match was continued today and the 19th-seeded Petrova finished it in just 15 minutes, breaking the 15th-seeded Rezai for a 9-8 lead and then serving out the match.
Russia’s Petrova, who was semifinalist at Roland Garros in 2003 and 2005, will play second seed Venus Williams in the fourth round. Petrova has never defeated Williams in their four meetings, but none of them were on clay. (photo: Stephane Martinache)
GOOOOO PETROVA!
SOOOO HAPPY SHE BEAT REZAI! I dislike that player SO much, and the French crowd is honestly the worst, so that is also part of the reason…
Didn’t watch the match today with JJ, but I think that she is a bigger contender for the RG title after every round!
GO JJ!
Sad Dementieva won, I was for Wozniak since Dementieva is too annoying as well!
How do you think everything is unfolding Marija?
My hopes are still not to high for JJ, but that could be a good thing, I will not jinx her. 😉 Pity Ana is further and further from showing signs of coming back. On the other hand, the Williamses are still in, as well as Stosur, Petrova, Pennetta, Wozniacki (I thought she would fall earlier because of the injury). Dementieva has also progressed, although not without trouble. I’m happy for Kirilenko, but sad that Kuznetsova had to leave, she’s the coolest players IMO.
Interestingly, have you noticed Chanelle Scheepers is in the fourth round? Few people are talking about her…
Good eye Marija! I never knew of that player until now! Who is she? Where is she from? Did you watch her play?
What do you think about tomorrows match up Henin vs Sharapova?
I really dunno who will win that dual. I hope Sharapova, but I am skeptical!
Marija, I agree, we should not jinx JJ although I really hope she wins!
Ana’s loss was premature, and I am also skeptical about what she is up to, what her plans are for the near future…what do you think she should do?
She’s from South Africa. Here’s her profile: http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/players/overview/wta190873.html
She’s got only 8 career matches won. I haven’t watched her play.
Henin vs. Sharapova – anything can happen, but I still give the edge to Henin.
