Ana Ivanovic

Former world No.1 Ana Ivanovic won in three sets in the first round of the $220,000 Unicef Open against Sofia Arvidsson 4-6 6-0 6-1, but then fell in the next round already, to seventh seed Andrea Petkovic. After losing the first set, the world No.45 Ivanovic took the second set in a tie-break, but won only one game in the decider to let Petkovic advance with a 6-4 6-7(4) 6-1 victory.

Although the outcome of this match can’t be called an upset, we still perceive Ivanovic as a top player, despite her constant losses. However, there is one favorable circumstance – Ivanovic could soon have a soul mate in Dinara Safina who seems to be rapidly approaching just as huge a slump. (photo: sr_cranks)

  1. At this point for the upcoming Wimby GS it will really be an interesting championship for both the WTA and ATP.

The tournaments leading up to the GS is finding that the usual suspects of leading players is not who one can assume will win.

I do not feel confident to make any predictions this early on—

  2. Ana surprisingly has been hitting a lot of aces this week but the rest of her game was terribly today. What we have learned since Rome is that she is far from out of this slump. In fact, she may be even regressing even more.

I just hope Ana isn’t one and done at Wimbledon which I fear may be the case.

  3. I don’t think she’s regressing even more- her serve is much better, she still has problems with ball toss but not as much and not all the time as it used to be, her backhand is far better than earlier this year, her forhand too, even though she still makes many unenforced errors. At least she is now trying to build a point instead of always trying to hit a winner from every position. I think what her real problem is lack of constance, she makes a great point but on second she makes terrible mistake. And she has no selfconfidence, as we all now. But it’s nice to see that her behavour on the court got so much better: no fist pumps after every single point, no so much Ajde and screaming. So, I think her game is getting better.

  4. why do these types of articles about Ana never surprise me anymore?

Wimby is so soon, but no favorite is in site. Novak mentioned in the Press that he will get to the finals, but I am skeptical.

I am skeptical about the game of tennis at the moment 🙁
