Daniela Hantuchova was the last to play with legendary Martina Hingis prior to her retirement, it was at the 2007 US Open, and now she’ll be Hingis’ doubles partner on the Swiss’ return to the courts at the upcoming Southern California Open and the US Open.
Talking about pairing with the newly-inducted member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Hantuchova, who won her maiden WTA title by beating Hingis at the 2002 Indian Wells, said:
I respect her incredibly and she was always my idol growing up so I said ‘Why don’t we give it try?’ We don’t have anything to lose and we just want to have fun on court.
Hantuchova also said that Hingis can never lose her nature of a champion and that she’s going to follow her instructions, as always. Toronto, Cincinnati and New Haven are in Hingis’ doubles plans as well. (source: Tennis.com, photo: Ralf Reinecke)
