The 2009 US Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki, seeded sixth this year, had a tough opener against Chinese qualifier Duan Ying-Ying, but is happy to have made it to the second round after taking five consecutive games from 5-2 down in the second set. The Dane cruised through the first set 6-2 and dug deep in the second set to win 6-2 7-5 and avoid the fate that struck her last year at the US Open when she fell in the first round to Irina-Camelia Begu 6-2 6-2.
