Top seed Bojana Jovanovski and Olga Govortsova are the winners of Friday’s Tashkent Open semifinals.

Jovanovski eliminated unseeded Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor in one hour and 5 minutes, 6-2 6-2. Torro-Flor, who defeated two seeds in her previous matches, seed No.6 Irina-Camelia Begu and seed No.3 Yvonne Meusburger, had an early lead, 2-0 in the first set, before Jovanovski won 10 of the next 12 games. Torro-Flor won the fourth and sixth games in the second set, but Jovanovski managed to close the set and the match.

The second semifinal was between doubles partners Olga Govortsova and Mandy Minella, who together reached the Tashkent Open final in doubles, but their singles semi ended with the elimination of Luxembourg’s Minella 6-2 7-5 in one hour and 30 minutes. In the first set Belarusian Govortsova broke Minella’s serves twice, in the second and sixth game, while the second set was a little bit tighter.

They played for every game before the Belarusian managed to end it 7-5. Their head-to-head record is now 3-0 for Govortsova and this will be her first final in three years.

Meanwhile, at the Challenge Bell in Quebec, the quarterfinals are in action. Sixth seed Marina Erakovic beat Ajla Tomljanovic 2-6 6-1 7-5, and will play the winner of the match between Polona Hercog and Christina McHale. The other quarterfinal pairs are Canadian No.1 and 53rd-ranked Eugenie Bouchard, seeded fifth, vs. seed No.2 Kristina Mladenovic and seed No.3 Lucie Safarova vs. seed No.7 Lauren Davis. (photos: © Neal Trousdale)
