Pavlyuchenkova, Goerges advance at the Korea Open

Opening matches at the Korea Open started on Monday and of seven matches three involved seeded players, two of which passed into the second round. Sixth seed Julia Georges of Germany, ranked 49th, defeated Misaki Doi of Japan in straight sets 6-3 7-5 in their first career meeting, third seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia, ranked 32nd, battled past Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain 5-7 6-2 6-3, in what was their second meeting after Linz 2011 which the Russian also won, while fifth seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine was stunned by unseeded Lara Arruabarrena of Spain 7-5 2-6 6-4.

The rest of the matches were between Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania who eliminated wildcard Sung-Hee Han with a bagel in the first set 6-0 7-6(0), Vera Dushevina of Russia threw out Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-4 6-1, Virginie Razzano of France discharged Lourdes Domingues Lino with breadsticks 6-1 6-1 and wildcard Ye-Ra Lee of Korea defeated Daria Gavrilova of Russia 6-4 6-1.
