At the $235,000 BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open, Annika Beck made her first WTA final and will face top seed Caroline Wozniacki in the Sunday’s battle for the title.
The 19-year-old Beck was the first to advance, with a 7-5 1-0 retirement victory over Stefanie Voegele. The reason was a left thigh injury. All the previous three Voegele’s matches in Luxembourg were three-setters and last week in Linz she also reached the semis with three three-set victories, so that must have taken its toll.
In the second semifinal, third seed Sabine Lisicki entered the match too late, giving resistance when already 6-4 4-0 down, and Wozniacki won 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 14 minutes.
